Recital 2022 Handbook!

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

Dear Parents,

Our Annual Year End Recital preparations are well on their way, and we have been diligently planning an exciting end to our 2021-2022 season.

A dance recital is always an exciting time for a dancer and their families. It is our goal to make your dancer’s day as organized and exciting as possible!

Our recital depends on everyone's involvement to make it the success your child deserves. A recital is a team effort. Every dancer, parent, and teacher play a key role in the success of the show. We cannot do it without you!

This handbook contains all the necessary information you will need to make your recital experience an enjoyable one. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. We thank you for the gift of your wonderful and talented children and look forward to working with you on this year's recital!

1. We Need Your Dancer's Picture!

Due March 15th

Each year at our Recital, we produce a beautiful slideshow introducing our dancers before the show starts. With mask restrictions in place, we are asking parents to upload a headshot of their dancer on this form for us to use.

Click HERE for more info and to submit photo.

All pictures are due by March 15th. This does not need to be a professional picture! Using your phone is fine! We suggest posing your dancer against a plain background or wall so they stand out.

2. Costume Care/Pick-up Instructions!

Costume Care

Once you bring your costume home, have your child try the costume on for you and check tight size, alerting the staff to any issues. ANY ISSUES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY! Costumes have been tried on with staff and we are not able to replace costumes at this time due to major delays with costume companies.

Once everything is checked at home, the costume should be hung in a safe place where children and animals cannot touch. Costumes are not to be worn for play!!! Only wear costumes for rehearsal and recital so that they stay safe. After the show, costumes are fun dress up clothes, halloween costumes, BUT NOT BEFORE! If costumes are wrinkled, you can either hang in steamy bathrooms or use a steamer to help release wrinkles. Most times just hanging and giving a good shake will help.

*Costumes are custom ordered but not custom fit. (That means that the costume companies only make a limited supply by what is ordered; if something happens to costume, it cannot always be replaced so treat them like gold!) Sometimes minor adjustments may need to be made by the parent to be custom fit to your child.

3. Recital Program Ads/Shout Outs!

Due April 3rd

Sending your favorite dancer (or favorite dance class!) a personalized "Star Ad" in our recital program is a great way to commemorate their dance year. Family and friends may also purchase a “Shout Out” line to say “Good Luck” or “Break A Leg”. This is also a unique way to advertise a business to local families!

Choose from one of our templates (add your own photos) and let us do the work, or create your own ad!

6. Class Rehearsal/Recital Assignments!

Check HERE for your dancer's Rehearsal/Recital day and time.

As noted above, some of our shows have been split into two parts due to our new venue's limited seating. All shows are still on the same scheduled dates- only the times and amount of performers in each show has been adjusted so we do not have to limit our audience.

We always do our best to keep siblings together, but due to the large amount enrolled in our school, we are not always able to keep them in the same show. Additionally, if your dancer is in more than one class, we can not guarantee that all of their classes will perform in the same show. We appreciate your understanding with this. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When checking your dancer's Rehearsal/Recital day and time, please check the spelling of your dancer's name (this is how it will appear in our program book) and let our desk staff know ASAP if there are any corrections needed.

7. Rehearsal and Recital Overview!

REHEARSAL PROCEDURES:

Each recital will have it's own day/time when they will rehearse. The rehearsal times are listed with your dancer's Recital Day/Time. All students must be checked in and be ready to dance (full costume/shoes- no hair and makeup needed) by their rehearsal time.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot wait for latecomers so please give yourself plenty of time to account for traffic and get checked in.

Your given rehearsal time will be the time you need to be at the school checking your dancer in at the Dancer Check-in Desk. Rehearsals give the students opportunity to get the feel of being on stage and for teachers to go over any issues. It is also time for our crew to work on lighting and technical issues. Sometimes it goes like clockwork, and sometimes it can go longer than expected. Plan on 1-1.5 hours. No finale will be practiced so once your dancer is finished their final routine(s), Tiny Tutus staff will bring each class back to the Dancer Check-in Desk to meet parents and you are free to leave at that time.

We appreciate your patience with the rehearsal procedures. It is an important piece of the process that enables our dancers to shine on stage at the recital!

More details on Rehearsal Procedures will be given as we get closer!!

--------------------

RECITAL PROCEDURES:

Dancers should arrive 30-45 MINUTES PRIOR to show time.

• Please make sure that your dancer eats a good meal prior to their performance. • All dancers must come to the theater dressed in their costume. Hair, makeup, shoes and accessories on. When the dancer arrives at the venue, one parent will sign the dancer in at the Dancer Check-in Desk and receive a wristband for your dancer and note card with the dancer’s name on it for the parent. This note card will be used to enable you to pick the dancer up at the conclusion of the show. Only 1 parent will be allowed backstage to pick the dancer up and they must have the note card. Please make sure you take your child to the bathroom right before sending them backstage!!

Family members and friends are NOT allowed backstage or in the dressing rooms during the recital. The same applies after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited amount of space and dressing rooms are a private area. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of dancers and of the areas. Those who wish to greet or present flowers to a performer after the show may do so in the lobby areas.

Relax! Keep in mind that recitals only happen once a year. You will be excited and anxious, so just try to relax and enjoy your day with your dancer(s)!

More details on Recital Procedures will be given as we get closer!!
